Michael & Ruth Quek
Missions Personnel Code: "MRQ"

Involvement: Marginalised and shop workers ministry

Organization: OMF Singapore

Serving in: Taiwan

Ruth accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Saviour in 2005 when God gave her the rhema word (utterance of Jesus) from Mark 16:15, “And he said to them, ‘Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation,’” and confirmed it with Luke 10: 2, “And he said to them, ‘The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of harvest to send out labourers into his field.’”

Michael was spared from the gallows twice, and spent a total of 18 years in prison. In his last incarceration of 9 years, he witnessed and experienced the saving and transforming power of Jesus Christ. Since 2005, he has been praying that the Lord would fit him into a people group that has yet to hear and experience Christ’s redeeming forgiveness and grace.

In 2017, the Lord opened the door for Michael and Ruth to join the OMF Serve Asia trip to Taiwan, where they caught a glimpse of some OMF ministries involved in church planting, marginalised peoples, student ministries and leadership training. The Lord showed them that indeed, the field is white for harvest, and moved their hearts for the people of Taiwan.

With their unique backgrounds and experiences, Michael and Ruth see the Lord’s hand in their lives, and how it has prepared and equipped them to serve their target people groups.

Michael and Ruth set out to the field in March 2020. They hope to spread the gospel in the unreached areas of Taiwan, particularly the unseen working class and marginalised groups.

They echo the words of the apostle Paul: “...my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me—the task of testifying to the good news of God’s grace” (Acts 20:24).
