Jeffrey came to know the Lord at the age of 10 through Sunday school, and responded to God’s call to missions when he was about 12 through the testimony of Dr Andrew Ng. He studied medicine at NUS and is a trained doctor.

Serene grew up in a Christian family, but it was in her teen years that the Lord spoke to her heart. She attended Singapore Bible College, and after earning her Bachelor of Theology, Serene began serving at Bartley Christian Church.

Shortly after their marriage, they took a visit to Cambodia. From 2000 to 2001, Jeffrey worked as a doctor in a clinic there. When they returned to Singapore for the birth of their second child, Jeffrey took the opportunity to study at SBC. In 2003, the family left for Cambodia under OMF with 2 kids.

For the next 10 years, Jeffrey was initially the team doctor and later the field medical advisor for OMF Cambodia and was seconded to Prison Fellowship Cambodia, where he served as a volunteer for 8 years. He was also part of the local church, providing support and some preaching. Serene was involved in Serve Asia, where she oversaw the individual and team placements, providing direction and care for those exploring missions. She was also the coordinator for new members on the field, providing help and support for the families.

In 2013 they returned to Singapore with their three children, Ethan, Sarah, and Cheryl. Jeffrey and Serene served as Bartley’s Missions Director from 2014 to 2017 and 2017 to 2018, respectively.

Serene has now returned to OMF as a full-time staff member of OMF Singapore, taking on the role of Personnel Manager of the Singapore National Office and from August 2022 her new role is Deputy Mobiliser, while Jeffrey serves in the International Centre as Assistant International Medical Advisor and then as International Medical Advisor.
